"The Art of Biodiversity": the conference takes its cue from the release of the Biodiverse Art Book.

Words and images between aesthetics, art and the environment, curated by Elisabetta Di Stefano and Diego Mantoan from the University of Palermo, featuring the captivating images of artist Laura Pitingaro

The volume explores the concept of biodiversity through short chapters that range from philosophy to ecology, from the history of art to natural sciences, combining scientific and humanistic approaches.

Promoted by the National Biodiversity Future Center, the Biodiverse Art Book invites readers to embark on an immersive journey through a series of adjectives that outline an ideal corollary of sensations, moods, and properties attributable to biodiversity from a humanistic perspective.

The conference unfolds as a conversation between art historian DIEGO MANTOAN, University of Palermo, artist LAURA PITINGARO, National Biodiversity Future Center fellow, and MICHELE DA POZZO, director of the Natural Park of the Dolomites d’Ampezzo.

It will be an opportunity to propose a deeper understanding of biodiversity, especially its conceptual and experiential complexity, highlighting the interconnection of our environment with the life of all living beings. A reflection on how art can assist science in translating biodiversity into images and sensations that encourage the general public to reconsider their own aesthetic stereotypes that harm the environment.
