It lies right next to the current State Road SS 42, about four kilometres from Vermiglio and around six from the Tonale Pass.

This Austro-Hungarian fortress was built between 1860 and 1861 at an altitude of 1,538 metres above sea level, with the purpose of controlling and defending the final stretch of the road leading to the pass. The structure has a semicircular layout and is spread over two levels. The first level features three gun positions, while the second has four, facing towards the Tonale road and the Vermiglio valley.

From its very first year of reopening to the public, the idea was not only to present the fort as a historical site or "container" of the past, but also to host art exhibitions designed to encourage further reflection. Over the past twenty years, eighteen exhibitions have been held.
