Rotwand Meadows – Kreuzberg Pass
The Rotwand cable car takes you comfortably up to the mountain station at 1934 m. From there, the hike climbs gently among vegetated boulders to the shoulder of Schellaboden. Beneath the impressive Sesto Rotwand and Neunerkofel, the trail traverses eastwards to a wide path leading down to the Kreuzberg Pass. Return by public bus to Moos, then about 10 minutes on foot back to the starting point. Backpacking provisions or refreshments possibility.
Difficulty: easy, suitable for families.
Length: 7 km.
Duration: 08:30 am.-03:00 pm.
Walking time: 2,5 hours.
Difference in altitude: ascent 145 m, descent 435 m.
Departures: at 08:30 am. at the bus stop at the head of Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena, 08:35 am. St. Martin, 08:45 am. Pichl, 08:55 am. Taisten, 09:00 am. at the bus stop in Welsberg, Rienz Bridge (opposite Bar Parkcafé).
Cost: with Südtirol Guest Pass – Gsiesertal-Welsberg-Taisten Card 15 €, without advantage card 25 €. Cable car ascent to Rotwand not included.
