Mountain hut with rooms Pio XI alla Palla Bianca

The hut "Rifugio Pio XI is situated 2,556 meters above sea level at the bottom of the Palla Bianca mountain (3,738 m).
From there you have a perfect view on the Palla Bianca mountain itself, on the surrounding glaciers like the glacier of Valle Lunga "Langtauferer", the "Ba?renbart" (literally translated it means "Bears beard"), the "Weißspitz" mountain and the "Gepatschferner" mountain.
This hut is very original and old fashioned and it is an ideal destination also for families with kids: 600 m from the village "Melag" on the hiking trail number 2 or 3 it takes you about 2 hours to get there.
The hut is situated in the Valle Lunga valley in the upper Val Venosta valley in South Tyrol, near the border to Austria. You can reach the Valle Lunga valley across the Passo di Resia pass by crossing Switzerland or across Merano.
By foot the hut is accessible:
- from Melag (parking lot) in approx. 1,5 hours
- from the "Brandenburger Haus" hut (on 3,277 m) in approx. 3 hours
- from Maso Corto (2,014 m) in 5-6 hours
- from the "Scho?ne-Aussicht-Hu?tt", the "beautiful view hut", in Val Senales valley in approx. 5 hours
- from the "Hochjochhospiz" (on 2,413 m) in approx. 5 hours
Hiking hut: Restaurant food at noon
In the evening also half board (dinner and breakfast, incl. warm homemade tea and free access to the shower).
During the winter the hut is closed. The "Palla Bianca" hut is opened from mid June until the beginning of October.
