Merano: a town of wellbeing

In Merano quality of life is synonymous with elegance. The town’s mild climate is an integral part of its famed ambience while a harmonious blend of Alpine tradition and Mediterranean savoir-vivre sets Merano apart from other holiday destinations.

With its mild climate and lush parks Merano offers the perfect setting for outdoor activities and sports. The town’s many walks and promenades let you explore its main sites whilst taking leisurely strolls. The scenic Passer Promenade is adorned by the splendid Merano Kurhaus with its Art Nouveau facade. Running from east to west above Merano, the four-kilometer-long Tappeiner Promenade offers sweeping views of the town below. Nature enthusiasts should also take a walk on the Waalweg Trails in Merano’s immediate surroundings which run alongside man-made water channels and lead through largely untouched landscapes.

After being named "International Garden of the Year" in 2013, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle officially rank among the most beautiful gardens in the world. Its more than eighty garden landscapes delight visitors with colorful plants from around the world and ten Artists’ Pavilions. Moreover, in summer the Gardens turn into a spectacular venue for a wide array of events.

The Merano Thermal baths provide state-of-the-art facilities and offer visitors the ultimate experience of relaxation in a unique setting. 15 pools (open all year and including two thermal pools with radon), the "Spa & Vital Center" with a wide range of treatments, and a sauna complex guarantee a thoroughly invigorating experience for body and mind. The extensive Spa Park is especially inviting in summer: its romantic lily pond and bathing trail are ideal places to while away sunny days.

By visiting Merano’s museums, you can explore both the town’s past and present. Museums and art galleries like "Merano Arte", the unique Women’s Museum or the imposing Princes’ Castle regularly put on extraordinary exhibitions, highlighting both the town’s rich cultural heritage and its exciting, creative present.

Whether it’s the traditional Grape Festival with its splendid parade through town center, the Merano Forst Grand Prix held at the magnificent Racecourse or the Merano Christmas Market: Merano offers intriguing events all year round, providing entertainment and memorable experiences for locals and visitors alike.

Shoppers need look no further than the Portici Arcade (Laubengasse). As Merano’s main shopping street, the Portici Arcade features all kinds of shops and outlets. The ideal place to go looking for fashion and jewelry, for sports goods, assorted gifts, and much besides. Shoppers can relax and indulge themselves in the many restaurants and cafes while taking in the architectural beauty of the Lauben.

Merano’s cuisine is a crossover between Tyrolean and Mediterranean influences, blending together two very different culinary traditions. The town’s rich assortment of eateries ranges from rustic taverns and inns with hearty fare to posh restaurants. Merano’s inventive and creative cuisine makes it a hotspot for gourmets and food lovers.
