The food
Schenna is a picturesque and sunny village in the heart of South Tyrol

Schenna is beautifully located, just above Merano/Meran at about 600 m above sea level. The entire municipality covers an area of 4,800 hectares – from the outskirts of the city of Merano to the mountain summits of the Sarntal Alps, including the most famous ones, namely Hirzer (2,781 m) and Ifinger (2,581 m). Palm trees, cypresses, apple trees, vineyards, and chestnut trees create an interesting interaction between cultivated and natural landscapes.
Schenna offers great hiking fun for pleasure hikers and mountaineers. Along the irrigation channels you’ll find easy hiking paths. Comfortable hikes lead up to alpine huts and pastures. Alpinists can enjoy the fantastic view of Meraner Land during their mountain tours. The Schenna hiking area includes 200 kilometres of sign-posted trails at various altitudes and of different levels of difficulty: from simple strolling paths, comfortable hikes to alpine meadows and lodges, up to high alpine tours and climbing peaks. Five cable cars and two chairlifts are ideal for easily reaching high altitudes. Furthermore, the region around Merano is famous for its beautiful highlands. In summer and in winter you will find here many possibilities for hiking, biking or skiing. In Schenna the sun shines on about 300 days per year. Maybe because of that nearly every hotel has its own outdoor swimming pool. Those who love a noble hotel ambience and an all-round service can choose from many accommodations, and those who prefer the personal atmosphere of a pension will also find the right place. Those who prefer to be amongst themselves can choose from various holiday apartments. And on various farms in and outside Schenna you can participate in farm life. If you are interested in culture, Schenna is the right place for you. The main sights are the Castle of Schenna, the Mausoleum of Archduke Johann, the many churches, the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and last but not least the nearby spa town Merano.
Schenna is characterised by a special mix of South Tyrolean charm and Mediterranean lifestyle. Blooming gardens and an alpine panorama. Feudal castles and secluded alpine huts. Gourmet restaurants and traditional wood-panelled rooms. Luxury hotels and historic farms. Wellness oasis and hiking pleasures.
