Alpine and Walser Crafts Market Exhibition, concurrent with the 23rd Extemporaneous Wood Sculpture Competition.

From July 3 to 5, 2026, Macugnaga will host the San Bernardo Fair. The event, which
has officially opened the summer season of the Pearl of the Rosa for thirty-seven years, will, as per
tradition, offer a rich program of events that will alternate the conference with musical performances, the traditional exhibition of Alpine artisanal products, and the participation of groups, dressed in traditional costumes, from the Walser communities.

The celebrations will begin on Friday, July 3, with the delivery of linden trunks to the sculptors participating in the 23rd Extemporaneous Wood Sculpture Competition. The theme of this competition will be
communicated to the sculptors after the technical commission and the Walser Community Committee
have chosen it.

On Saturday, July 4th, the fair will be open to the public, with over 50 stalls displaying wood carvings, ceramics, embroidery, textiles, flowers, woven baskets, wrought iron objects, tools, food and wine products, and antiques. Numerous demonstrations can be admired while strolling through the Alpine exhibition: from
wood turning and carving to weaving and embroidery, in addition to various cultural events that will
conclude on Saturday evening with the presentation of the Insignia of Saint Bernard.

Following the format of the ancient Fair of the Immaculate Conception, which took place in Macugnaga since the 13th century and was revived by the Alte Lindebaum Gemeinde in 1987, Sunday, July 5th will be dedicated
to the religious part of the event, with Holy Mass and a procession of the Statue of Saint Bernard through the streets of Macugnaga, and the blessing of mountaineering tools under the Old LindenTree.

The event will officially conclude in the afternoon with the award ceremony for the sculptors, exhibitors, and
Walser groups present in Staffa square and a greeting from the authorities.

The detailed program of the Conference, Saturday’s shows, and the name of the person who will be awarded the coveted San Bernardo Insignia, as well as information on the guests who will participate in the XXXVII San Bernardo Fair, will be announced in the next press release.
