Welcome to Macugnaga! A village at the foot of Monte Rosa’s East face, with lots to be discovered.
Our alpine village boasts a multi-centenary history which began in the 13th century with the Walser settlement, a population with its origins from the Saas Valley in Switzerland. Its symbols are the Chiesa Vecchia (Old Church), a Romanesque building dating back to 1300 adjacent to a spectacular, multi-centennial linden tree, the traditional Walser houses, and its communal ovens wherein typical rye bread is still made to this day.
Awarded a prestigious "Orange Flag" by the Touring Club Italiano, it’s an idyllic place for your holidays: traditions, relaxation, sport, typical dishes and traditional food and wine.
For all the trekking and the extreme sports enthusiasts, Macugnaga boasts a great alpine history (many of the most notable mountaineering feats – and tragedies – have taken place here) particularly related to the famous east face of the Monte Rosa, the highest face in the Alps and the only one with Himalayan proportions.
