Craftsmanship & Solidarity
Temporary Exhibition
From 11 to 26 October 2025, the ground floor of the Rimoldi Museum will host a display of original textile creations, skilfully made by young Andean women. These artisans, organised in cooperatives, are supported by volunteers from Operazione Mato Grosso and the Don Bosco3A Association—a missionary movement founded in 1967 in Latin America by Father Ugo De Censi.
In the 100 or so missions active across Latin America, projects have been carried out in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, reforestation, drinking water supply, and social services. The primary focus, however, has always been on supporting young people.
Among the various initiatives still operating today, the "taller" schools hold a prominent place—five-year vocational colleges offering training in areas such as weaving, knitting, carpentry, and wood carving.
In the weaving programmes, alpaca wool, lace-making, handlooms, and ancient local craft traditions combine with the extraordinary talent of Andean craftswomen to produce clothing, coats, bags, rugs, scarves, and a variety of colourful accessories, all characterised by vibrant colours and unique designs.
This journey has also been made possible thanks to the valuable contribution of a designer friend, who for years has offered creative guidance in the development of these handmade pieces.
