The community Gais is located at the entrance of the romantic valley of Aurina in South Tyrol, framed on both sides by the river Ahrnbach. With the local parts Montassilone, Lana di Gais, Riomolino and Villa Ottone, at an altitude of approx. 840 m. In Villa Ottone the parish church St. Margareth should be mentioned, with a frontage rich in colours and valuable interiors. The evidence of the presence of the noblemen of Villa Ottone, is the old castle of Villa Ottone, which was ordered to be built by these gentlemen in the 11th century.
