The Levico Terme Park is the most important historic park in the Province of Trento and one of the most fascinating green spaces in the area. Created at the beginning of the 20th century according to the design of German landscape architect and gardener Georg Ziehl (1873–1953), the park still preserves the elegance and charm of the Habsburg era, when Levico Terme was a renowned spa resort frequented by the Austro-Hungarian nobility, who were drawn by the beneficial properties of its arsenic-iron-rich waters.
Covering an area of around 12 hectares, the park is a true treasure trove of biodiversity, where majestic centuries-old trees, rare botanical species, ornamental shrubs and flowering meadows create a landscape of extraordinary beauty in every season.
Along the main avenues, visitors can admire impressive specimens of Himalayan cedar (Cedrus deodara), while among the most valuable trees are the elegant Picea orientalis. Similar to Norway spruce, but with smaller needles and cones, these trees reach heights of 28–29 metres within the park. Particularly impressive are also the two Douglas firs (*Pseudotsuga menziesii*), which grow to almost 30 metres in height.
In spring, the park awakens in a spectacular display of colour: the first blooms of snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) and spring snowflakes (Leucojum vernum) are followed by dwarf irises, fritillaries and grape hyacinths, culminating in magnificent expanses of tulips and giant alliums. The scene is further enhanced by peonies, jasmine, viburnums, ornamental dogwoods, spiraeas, wisteria and clematis.
During summer, the lush green vegetation dominates the landscape, enriched by the changing shades of foliage and the blooms of hydrangeas, roses and flowering meadows, inviting visitors to stroll and relax surrounded by nature.
Autumn transforms the park into a unique display of colours: the golden hues of beech trees, tulip trees, ginkgo, sweetgum and maples alternate with the red tones of oaks, American maples, smoke trees and oak-leaved hydrangeas.
In winter, the charm of the park is centred around its majestic conifers, including Norway spruce and the precious Oriental spruce (Picea orientalis), which give the landscape a captivating and timeless atmosphere.
The Levico Terme Park is a place where history, botany and wellbeing come together: an immersive walk through greenery, ideal for those wishing to discover a unique natural and landscape heritage in the heart of Trentino.
