The sun-soaked ski and hiking resort of Merano 2000 is an irresistible invitation to swap the bustling city for a day out and about in the mountains: It’s a mere seven-minute ride on South Tyrol’s largest ropeway to what the locals lovingly call the sun deck of Merano – that’s award-winning architecture and sustainable mobility fused into one of the most cutting-edge cableway systems in the Alps.
With its sun-kissed plateau and 40 km of long slopes at 2000 m above sea-level, there’s plenty in store for both skiers and snowboarders. A total of nine ski runs with varying levels of difficulty cater to the needs of all visitors – from families with aspiring little snow pros to advanced skiers. Freestylers, too, are spoilt for choice: The Snowpark Merano 2000 at the rear end of the slope network boasts kickers, rails, tubes and boxes for newbies and cracks alike.
The Outdoor Kids Camp offers a safe space for kids and beginners to get started on their skis or snowboard – with the help of the many skiing instructors or a series of magic carpets at the ski kindergarten facility. Adrenaline and family fun galore is the specialty of the Alpin Bob mountain coaster, a 1.1 km toboggan run on rails.
During the cold season, Merano 2000 provides pure snowy bliss for all winter sports aficionados: sophisticated skiing and snowboarding, freestyle and cross-country skiing, ski touring, sledging, snow-shoe hiking and even paragliding.
