Fiè allo Sciliar / Völs am Schlern: Hotels, B&B, Residence and holiday apartments

The beautiful and picturesque Fiè allo Sciliar lies at an elevation of 880 m above sea level. The area reaches from the Eisack valley up to the Sciliar-plateau. Only few kilometers (16 km) away from Bolzano, Fiè is the ideal starting point for all kind of excursions. The pond of Fiè: enjoy a welcome diversion and dive into the pond of Fiè , which is one of the most beautiful ponds of South Tirol. In the 16th centuary, the captain of Tirol, Leonard von Völs-Colonna ordered to build this pond, to indulge in his passion for fishing. Today fishing is strictly prohibited. Exclusively swimming in summer and skating and curling in winter is allowed. Health resort and tradition: already at that time, the farmers appreciated the pleasant effect of the hey. After a long day working on the fields and a night sleeping in the hey, the farmers felt like newly born. Over the years the hey-bath became manifested and is nowadays one of the oldest traditions of the inhabitants of Fiè. In the year 2003 the holiday resort Fiè allo Sciliar was officially appointed a health resort. Amongst various sports activities throughout the year, Fiè also offers a number of historic sights. Castle Prösel is well known for the witch trials more then 500 years ago. Castle Prösel was at that time the home of the district court of Fiè. The captain Leonard von Völs imposed the death sentence on 30 people accused of heresy. The historic castle Prösel is nowadays a cultural center where exhibitions and concerts take place.
